Kmart Unfairly Fired Women Over 40, Suit Alleges

Law360, New York (October 9, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A handful of former Kmart employees at a store just north of Minneapolis have sued the retail giant after they were fired for what they believe to be age and gender discrimination.

According to the complaint, which was filed Friday, Margaret Markstrom, Laurie Shannon, Gwen Stark, Peggy Trosper and two unnamed employees were dismissed simply because they were female and over 40.

“Younger employees and male employees were retained, while more experienced, older, long-term female employees were terminated,” the suit said.
