EPA Reaches Deal With Disinfectant Maker

Law360, New York (July 31, 2009, 6:05 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has reached a settlement with chemical and biotechnology company Lonza Inc. over alleged violations of pesticide regulations related to hospital disinfectants that the EPA says do not effectively kill the particular pathogens they claim to eliminate.

In a statement Friday, the EPA said the settlement reached with Lonza was one of the largest civil penalties ever assessed under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act, and is the third pesticide-related settlement the agency has reached with Lonza, the country's largest producer...
