Ex-Insys VP Pays $9.5M To End Ariz. Opioid Kickback Claims
Law360 (April 2, 2019, 9:39 PM EDT) -- The former vice president of sales at Insys Therapeutics has agreed to pay $9.5 million to settle claims that he participated in a scheme that allegedly involved bribing doctors to prescribe the company's opioid spray, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said Tuesday.
Alec Burlakoff, former vice president of sales for the opioid manufacturer, admitted to using the company’s speaker program as a way to illegally pay doctors to prescribe the fentanyl spray, Subsys. Under the terms of the settlement, he will disgorge $5.2 million in compensation he received from Insys stock and $4.3 million in civil penalties, the AG’s office said....
