Judge Rejects Bid For Defense Extension In $1B Fraud Claim

Law360, London (May 3, 2019, 5:29 PM BST) -- A London judge refused on Friday to give a Ukrainian businessman more time to file his defense against breach of trust allegations linked to a $1 billion damages claim, rejecting arguments that he might be unable to sign documents because he is in detention in Russia.

Oleg Mkrtchan, who is named as a defendant in a complex suit involving 26 individual and businesses, faces charges of fraud in Russia, and his lawyers fear he will not have access to vital legal documents.
