ITC Hands Down Mixed Ruling To Broadcom, Qualcomm

Law360, New York (October 10, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An International Trade Commission judge dispensed a mixed initial ruling Tuesday in the ongoing feud between Qualcomm and Broadcom. Qualcomm lost one of its patent cases and Broadcom ultimately walked away without an injunction against its rival.

The ITC judge said Qualcomm violated a patent relating to chips for advanced wireless phones, but rejected two other Broadcom claims. More notably, the judge did not recommend a request by Broadcom to bar the importation of devices with Qualcomm chips.
