Fla. Blue Says DaVita Charity Scheme Cost Insurer Millions

Law360 (May 15, 2019, 5:16 PM EDT) -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Inc. accused dialysis provider DaVita Inc. of costing the insurer tens of millions of dollars with a charity-linked scheme that steered patients toward commercial health plans to boost its profits, according to a suit filed Tuesday.

The insurer claims DaVita pushes its dialysis patients to buy commercial insurance plans like those offered by Florida Blue, even though the vast majority are eligible for coverage under Medicare or Medicaid.
