China Slams US 'Protectionism' In Tire Import Spat

Law360, New York (August 12, 2009, 3:13 PM EDT) -- A Chinese trade official said Wednesday that a U.S. complaint about China's tire exports smacked of protectionism and appealed to Washington to avoid taking steps that might harm relations.

Allegations that Chinese tire imports are hurting the U.S. tire industry are unfounded, China's deputy commerce minister said Wednesday, shortly after the U.S. International Trade Commission recommended slapping new tariffs on Chinese tires.
