Iowa Diocese Seeks Sanctuary With Bankruptcy Filing

Law360 (October 11, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Roman Catholic Diocese of Davenport has filed for Chapter 11 protection, joining the ranks of other dioceses nationwide that have been forced to reorganize in order to settle a slew of sexual abuse cases.

On Tuesday, the diocese announced its decision to duck into bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Iowa, contending that the move would help ensure the financial health of the church.
