GAO Urges CPSC To Put New Powers to Work

Law360, New York (August 14, 2009, 6:51 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's ability to ensure the safety of product imports has been strained by limited resources, competing priorities and delays in implementing key provisions of a new consumer safety law, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

While the CPSC's current powers have significant potential to help the agency ensure product safety, the commission could use those authorities more effectively, the GAO said in a report issued Friday.
