RF Micro To Pay Fine For Unlawful Modem Exports

Law360, New York (August 17, 2009, 6:38 PM EDT) -- RF Micro Devices Inc., which designs and manufactures high-performance semiconductor components, has agreed to pay a $190,000 civil penalty to settle allegations that it unlawfully exported spread-spectrum modems to China.

At the same time, an executive at RFMD, Carol Wilkins, agreed to pay a $15,000 civil penalty for allegedly lying to special agents charged with investigating the company.

According to the U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security, which announced the fines Aug. 14, RFMD violated the Export Administration Regulations by making 14 unlicensed shipments...
