4th Circ. Denies Venture Capital Fraudster New Trial

Law360, New York (August 18, 2009, 7:14 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has reaffirmed a jury's verdict against Mayflower Capital fund manager Brent Earl Wood, who was convicted of conspiring to swindle investors out of $15 million but saw a district judge vacate the verdict, acquit him and conditionally grant a new trial if the acquittal was overturned.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit panel on Aug. 14 reversed the district court’s judgment of acquittal and its conditional grant of a new trial and remanded the matter for sentencing.
