DOT Proposes Fine For Sunoco Pipeline Spill

Law360, New York (August 18, 2009, 3:29 PM EDT) -- Sunoco Pipeline LP could be hit with a $232,900 fine by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration for allegedly allowing 12,000 gallons of gasoline to spurt from one of its oil pipelines in Pennsylvania in November.

Sunoco failed to meet regulatory requirements for operating and maintaining its pipeline and failed to ensure that all its workers were adequately qualified, the DOT said Monday. The DOT conducted an investigation following the spill near Murrysville, Pa., outside Pittsburgh.
