EPA, Portsmouth Strike Deal Over Sewage Violations

Law360, New York (August 18, 2009, 4:29 PM EDT) -- The city of Portsmouth, N.H., has agreed to revamp its wastewater treatment and sewage systems in conjunction with a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency alleging violations of the Clean Water Act.

In a consent decree filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire, Portsmouth agreed to implement long-term master and compliance plans to deal with a system that the EPA, in a suit lodged concurrently, claimed was not meeting strict pollution limits set in its license.
