US, Steel Cos. Team Up For Chinese Pipe Duty Fight

Law360, New York (August 18, 2009, 4:51 PM EDT) -- The United States and domestic steel pipe manufacturers have asked the U.S. Court of International Trade to toss a countervailing-duty complaint filed by a Chinese welded pipe exporter, which claims the U.S. inaccurately assessed levels of Chinese state control over business when setting import penalties.

The U.S. — along with defendant-intervenors United States Steel Corp., Maverick Tube Corp. and Wheatland Tube Co. — filed briefs Aug. 17 supporting an earlier motion to dismiss the complaint, brought by privately owned Chinese companies Huludao Seven-Star Steel Pipe Group...
