SEC Mulls Easing Crowdfunding Regs, But It May Not Help

By Tom Zanki (June 28, 2019, 3:35 PM EDT) -- Securities-based crowdfunding hasn't attracted much interest in the three years since rules for it took effect, and watchers are split on whether any move by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to soften the rules would actually invite a larger crowd.

The SEC, as part of a larger review exploring how to improve its regulatory framework for securities offerings that are exempt from registration requirements, recently concluded that results for equity crowdfunding have been "relatively modest" since rules went live in May 2016.
