FERC, Maine Forge Deal For East Coast Tidal Power

Law360, New York (August 20, 2009, 2:10 PM EDT) -- The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Maine are teaming up to coordinate procedures and schedules for reviewing hydrokinetic projects off the state's coast, forging the first official federal-state partnership for tidal energy projects on the East Coast.

FERC Chairman Jon Wellinghoff and Maine Gov. John E. Baldacci signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday outlining the environmental protections, application review schedule and guidelines that will steer both state and the federal energy regulator as they fast-track development on renewable tidal-energy projects in Maine waters.
