Teachers Sue DeVos Over Loan Forgiveness ‘Mismanagement’

Law360 (July 11, 2019, 8:56 PM EDT) -- U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos was sued Thursday in D.C. federal court by American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten, alleging "gross mismanagement" of two federal student loan forgiveness programs the AFT says have only approved a sliver of qualified applications.

Weingarten and the American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO, filed the lawsuit on behalf of eight teachers against DeVos and the U.S. Department of Education, claiming among other things a violation of the Administrative Procedure Act and the Fifth Amendment’s due process clause.
