Tyson Unit Offers $2M To End Animal Waste Claims

Law360, New York (August 21, 2009, 4:09 PM EDT) -- A Tyson Foods Inc. unit has agreed to fork over $2 million to settle claims by the U.S. government that its meat-processing plant dumped harmful amounts of animal waste into the Missouri River.

Tyson Fresh Meats Inc., the world’s biggest beef and pork supplier, will pay the civil fine after allegedly breaching a 2002 consent decree to improve its treatment of wastewater discharges from its Dakota City, Neb.-based facility, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency said Thursday.
