Court Orders Tanduay to Halt Kapitan Gin Production

Law360, New York (October 22, 2003, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Mandaluyong regional trial court in the Philippines granted a motion by Ginebra San Miguel Inc. for a writ of preliminary injunction against Tanduay Distillers Inc., the Manila Standard reported.

The preliminary injunction stops the manufacturing, sale or advertisement of Tanduay's Kapitan gin product while the suit filed by Ginebra San Miguel for alleged trademark infringement and unfair competition is being heard.

Mandaluyong regional trial court judge Edwin Sorongon said TDI's use of "Ginebra" as part of the Kapitan gin brand "tends to show defendants intention...
