USPTO's New Strategic Plan Draws Fire

Law360, New York (October 13, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A proposal from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to create a so-called “suite” of patent products has raised concerns that the agency is sacrificing long-term quality to meet short-term production goals.

The proposal, part of the USPTO’s draft strategic plan for 2007 to 2012, attracted a letter of warning from Marc S. Adler, president of the Intellectual Property Owners Association, who said the move could devalue patents and increase litigation.
