Court Affirms Ford, GM Liable For Mechanic's Cancer

Law360, New York (August 25, 2009, 1:37 PM EDT) -- The Delaware Supreme Court has upheld a $2 million jury verdict in a case where a former auto mechanic said dust from brake shoes manufactured by Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. caused his fatal lung cancer.

Roland Leo Grenier Sr., an auto mechanic for 36 years, filed the suit against Ford and numerous other companies after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2005. He alleged that their "friction products" wrongfully exposed him to chrysotile, a form of asbestos.
