Feds Win Extension To Respond To Oil Shale Suit

Law360, New York (August 25, 2009, 3:18 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has granted the U.S. government's fourth request to delay its response to a suit seeking to block a Bush-era plan to open up 2 million acres in the Rocky Mountain West to oil shale and tar sands leasing.

Judge John L. Kane of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado on Monday gave the U.S. and defendant-intervenor Shell Frontier Oil & Gas Inc. until Sept. 30 to answer the complaint filed Jan. 16 by a coalition of environmental groups.
