Maytag Expands Recall Of Faulty Fridges

Law360, New York (August 25, 2009, 3:05 PM EDT) -- Thousands of additional Maytag Corp. refrigerators pose a serious fire hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Tuesday, expanding a recall the agency issued earlier in 2009 that affected 1.6 million fridges.

In cooperation with the commission, Whirlpool Corp. unit Maytag has voluntarily recalled an additional 46,000 units, according to the agency.

Since pledging to repair the affected appliances in March, the appliance manufacturer has received 23 additional reports of electrical problems with the refrigerators, according to the CPSC. Four consumers have notified the agency...
