Defunct La. Hospital Slams Insurer With $59M Suit

Law360, New York (August 28, 2009, 2:52 PM EDT) -- River West LP is seeking $58.5 million from American Guarantee and Liability Insurance Co., claiming the insurer’s failure to cover hurricane damage caused the Louisiana medical center’s bankruptcy and subsequent demise.

The complaint, lodged Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana, blames American Guarantee for the shuttering and liquidation of the River West Medical Center in Plaquemine, La., and seeks $20 million in damages, as well as an additional $38.5 million to penalize the insurance company for alleged bad faith dealings....
