Ameritrade, Federated Seek USPTO Reexamination Of Credit-Account Patent

Law360, New York (March 31, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Online broker Ameritrade and retailer Federated Department Stores have asked the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to reexamine a business-method patent for establishing credit accounts after the companies were sued for patent infringement.

The two companies asked the patent office to reexamine U.S. Patent No. 6,105,007, which covers the fully automated establishment of financial and credit accounts. The USPTO is required to grant or reject the reexamination request within three months of receiving the request.
