Merchants Criticize Visa Interchange Rates Disclosure

Law360 (October 19, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- On the heels of Visa USA’s disclosure of the fees merchants must pay when they accept its credit cards, a group of merchant trade associations has pledged to forge ahead with a legal battle against the company for price-fixing.

Visa’s announcement to begin posting the fees on Tuesday came six weeks after smaller competitor MasterCard Inc. revealed its intention to do the same by Nov. 1. The companies have recently been rattled by dozens of antitrust class actions brought by retailers and trade associations.
