EPA Plans Limits On Pesticide Use To Protect Salmon

Law360, New York (September 11, 2009, 2:22 PM EDT) -- After years of litigation over the effects of three pesticides on salmon populations, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced plans Friday to introduce new voluntary limitations on use of the chemicals in California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

The agency intends to make a variety of changes to the product labels for chlorpyrifos, diazinon and malathion — made mainly by Dow Chemical Co., Cheminova and Makhteshim Agan of North America, respectively — that could take effect in time for spring 2010 when the new growing season begins....
