Obama's Tire Decision Spurs Chinese Ire

Law360, New York (September 13, 2009, 9:01 PM EDT) -- President Obama's decision late Friday to impose tariffs on Chinese tire imports prompted a rapid response by the Chinese government, which immediately launched an investigation into alleged dumping of U.S. auto and chicken products.

The probe follows "complaints from Chinese manufacturers," the Commerce Ministry said, citing "unfair competition" that could harm domestic industries.

"China firmly opposes protectionism. The country hopes all countries will work together to promote a quick recovery of the world economy," the Ministry said in a release.
