Abu Ghraib Cos. Immune From State Claims: DC Circ.

Law360, New York (September 14, 2009, 6:29 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has tossed claims brought by former Abu Ghraib detainees against private military contractors CACI International Inc. and Titan Corp., ruling that both companies effectively have immunity from abuse claims.

In a 2-1 ruling Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit affirmed the district court's judgment on behalf of Titan, and reversed it as to CACI, saying that state tort law is preempted on the battlefield because it goes against federal interests and dismissing the claims against the...
