Swiss Antitrust Watchdog Puts Swatch Under Scrutiny

Law360, New York (September 15, 2009, 4:26 PM EDT) -- The Switzerland Competition Commission, known as COMCO, has begun an investigation into whether Swatch Group AG's ETA Manufacture Horlogere SA unit unfairly leveraged a possibly dominant position in the watchmaking market after price increases sparked customer complaints.

COMCO announced Sept. 14 that it opened the inquiry into the Swatch unit, which manufacturers moving watch parts. The inquiry was launched following a preliminary investigation that revealed evidence that ETA breached Switzerland's Restrictive Practices Act and abused the mechanical clockwork market, COMCO said.
