Hitachi Facing New Suit From Inventor Over Patent

Law360 (October 23, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Emboldened by a precedent-setting victory for Japanese inventors last week, a former employee of Japan’s Hitachi Ltd. has reportedly started preparing a lawsuit against the electronics giant for his share of cash stemming from a computer-chip patent.

Japanese daily Nihon Keizai quoted an attorney for inventor Yoshihiko Okamoto. The attorney said the man would seek $1.7 million from Hitachi—less than a week after the Supreme Court of Japan ordered the same company to pay former employee Seiji Yonezawa $1.4 million for optical disk technology.
