Ex-Sen. Martinez Joins DLA Piper Gov't Affairs Group

Law360, New York (September 23, 2009, 6:40 PM EDT) -- Former Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., will join international law firm DLA Piper as a partner in the firm's government affairs practice in Florida, the firm has announced.

Martinez, who resigned his seat Sept. 9, said he was excited about the move back to the private sector, but stressed that his new job had “nothing to do” with why he left public office.

“My decision was purely personal,” the 62-year-old Martinez told Law360 in a phone interview. “There's no horrible thing going on. I'm healthy, I'm well....
