Wyeth Sues FDA To Block Generic Zosyn

Law360, New York (September 23, 2009, 4:16 PM EDT) -- Pharmaceuticals giant Wyeth has filed a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's decision allowing Chennai, India-based Orchid Healthcare to make a generic version of Wyeth's intravenous antibiotic Zosyn, claiming that Orchid's drug is different from Wyeth's and could hurt patients.

According to the suit, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, Orchid's generic drug, approved Sept. 15, is based on an older version of Zosyn that Wyeth no longer sells. The older version is missing two functional inactive ingredients...
