6th Circ. Revives Female Cop's Sex Bias Suit

Law360, New York (September 23, 2009, 6:59 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has reversed the dismissal of a lawsuit by a female patrol officer who sued the police department of a Detroit suburb after she was passed over for a promotion to the position of detective in favor of two male applicants who had lower scores than she did.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit found Wednesday that plaintiff Karyn Risch had “arguably superior” qualifications than the two successful applicants and had produced other probative evidence regarding sex discrimination.
