Greenpeace Blocks European Patent Office

Law360, New York (April 6, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Activists for the environmental pressure group Greenpeace blocked the entrance to the European Patent Office in Munich on Monday in a protest against a patent for breeding human embryos.

About 100 activists blocked the doors of the building with rocks and ice blocks with dolls representing patented babies stuck to them.

Greenpeace said a patent published last November would break one of science's last taboos by legalizing the breeding of embryos, sperm and human eggs. The patent in question is European patent no. EP 1121015 "Method...
