Kentucky District Court Hears Trademark Dispute Between Bourbon Makers

Law360 (April 7, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal district court in Western Kentucky is hearing arguments this week in a trademark dispute between two bourbon makers.

Brown-Forman Corp., which makes Woodford Reserve bourbon, has sued rival Barton Brands Ltd. for trademark infringement, claiming that Barton copied its design in a new bourbon, Ridgewood Reserve 1792.

Brown-Forman claims Barton intentionally copied the design of its Woodford Reserve bottle to free-ride on the rival’s marketing effort.
