Kroes To Demand Overhaul Of Energy Industry

Law360, New York (October 27, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Commission is cracking down on Europe's energy industry, calling for the breakup of national incumbents and setting forth severe restrictions that would be imposed on long-term gas contracts.

On Monday, the European Union’s antitrust commissioner, Neelie Kroes, will deliver remarks at a conference in Lisbon, Portugal, demanding "a proper single market for energy" that will ensure European regulation has "real teeth," Dow Jones reported.
