FINRA Pushes Asset-Backed Securities Reporting

Law360, New York (October 1, 2009, 5:15 PM EDT) -- Days after regulators approved the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority's plan to increase transparency for debt issued by federal agencies, the authority on Thursday proposed another expansion of its Trade Reporting and Compliance Engine to asset-backed securities.

Such reporting would provide to FINRA trade prices, volume and other information in a market for such investment vehicles — including mortgage-backed securities and collateralized debt obligations — valued in the multiple trillions of dollars.
