Foley IP Boss Named USPTO Deputy Director

Law360, New York (October 2, 2009, 5:39 PM EDT) -- U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke has appointed Sharon Barner, chair of the intellectual property department at Foley & Lardner LLP, to be the new deputy director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Serving under new USPTO Director David Kappos, Barner will be tasked with helping to reform an agency that is essential to providing incentives to encourage innovation, Locke said in a statement Friday.
