Oil Lobbyists Can't Intervene In Ocean CO2 Suit: Court

Law360, New York (October 6, 2009, 5:44 PM EDT) -- The American Petroleum Institute has lost a bid to intervene in a suit that aims to force the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to consider ocean acidification, a byproduct of greenhouse gas emissions, when it assesses water pollution.

In an order issued Monday, Judge John C. Coughenour of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington denied the group's motion to intervene in the case, saying that several regulatory steps would intercede before the groups' interests were affected.
