Sen. Lugar Pushes For ASEAN Free Trade Deal

Law360, New York (October 12, 2009, 4:53 PM EDT) -- Sen. Richard G. Lugar, R-Ind., has announced plans to introduce legislation encouraging the U.S. to begin negotiating a free trade agreement with Southeast Asia, in advance of President Barack Obama's visit to the region next month.

Lugar said in a statement Friday that he would introduce the resolution this week, arguing that other countries with free trade agreements with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations have an advantage over the U.S.
