Poland To Seek Exemption From E.U. Data Protection Scheme

Law360, New York (April 13, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Poland will ask the European Commission for a 15-year transition period to conform to the European Union’s new regulatory framework for pharmaceutical patent protection.

The Polish government is hoping the Commission will grant the petition to avoid a severe stress on the country’s generic drug industry after 2006, according to local media reports.

Poland is one of 10 new member countries from Central and Eastern Europe slated to join the E.U. on May 1st.
