In-House Counsel Pay Takes Hit Amid Cost-Cutting

Law360, New York (October 14, 2009, 7:18 PM EDT) -- U.S. companies continue to be intent on trimming their law department costs, looking to cut back on spending and staffing, and putting the brakes on raises for in-house attorneys, according to a recent survey.

The study performed by legal consulting firm Hildebrandt and released this week showed flat growth in total legal spending in the U.S., as compared with last year's survey.

Some 30 percent of survey participants also said they expected an increase in the number of their in-house lawyers — likely reflecting a cost-cutting...
