Sens. Add Marijuana Research Expansion To Defense Bill

Law360 (June 29, 2020, 7:45 PM EDT) -- Senators on Friday introduced into the defense spending bill for 2021 language that would make it easier for researchers to do studies on the potential medical benefits of marijuana and marijuana-derived CBD, marking the latest legislative effort to cure the decadeslong deadlock on cannabis research.

The amendment was co-sponsored by Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, and is intended to streamline the process allowing the attorney general to review and process applications to grow marijuana.
