Colorado Gov. Signs Cannabis Social Equity Bill Into Law

Law360 (June 30, 2020, 8:25 PM EDT) -- The first state to legalize marijuana for adult use will now provide specific support for business owners who were disproportionately impacted by cannabis prohibition, after Colorado Democratic Gov. Jared Polis signed a social equity bill into law Monday night.

Polis' signature on HB 20-1424 creates criteria for social equity applicants seeking licenses in the state's robust marijuana economy, who will have access to incentives and benefits as Colorado develops its social equity program. The state will begin accepting applications for all forms of marijuana licenses from social equity applicants on Jan. 1.
