Del. Diocese Seeks Ch. 11 Amid Sex Abuse Claims

Law360, New York (October 19, 2009, 2:31 PM EDT) -- The Catholic Diocese of Wilmington Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the latest diocese to seek court protection as it battles dozens of sexual abuse claims by former parishioners.

The diocese filed for bankruptcy Sunday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, listing between $50 million and $100 million in assets and between $100 million and $500 million in debt.

According to the petition, the diocese has between 200 and 300 creditors.
