EC Clears E.ON-Electrabel Power Plant Trade

Law360, New York (October 19, 2009, 2:16 PM EDT) -- The European Commission has cleared E.ON AG's proposed sale of some of its German power plants and transmission rights to Electrabel SA in exchange for similar assets in Belgium and the Netherlands, part of the German utility's promise to divest assets to resolve competition concerns.

The regulator approved the transaction Oct. 13 after finding that the trade didn't create any competition concerns because the Belgian GDF Suez SA unit has only limited energy interests in Germany, the commission announced Friday.
