USPTO Taps Duke Patent Professor For Adviser Role

Law360, New York (October 21, 2009, 7:23 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has appointed Arti K. Rai, a patent professor at Duke University School of Law and former Harvard Law School classmate of President Barack Obama, to serve as a key policy adviser to agency director David Kappos and provide guidance on intellectual property issues for trade agreements.

The USPTO on Monday swore in Rai as administrator for external affairs. While she will work closely with Kappos to provide counsel on policy matters, she will also oversee the USPTO’s work with Congress...
