Wyeth Hit With Punitive Damages In Prempro Case

Law360, New York (October 26, 2009, 7:06 PM EDT) -- In a one-two punch to Pfizer Inc., a Philadelphia jury has reportedly awarded punitive damages in addition to $3.7 million in compensatory damages to a woman who developed invasive breast cancer after she began taking Prempro, which is made by the company’s Wyeth unit.

The jury in the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia County, Pa., ruled Monday that Wyeth, which was recently acquired by Pfizer, must pay bellwether plaintiff Connie Barton punitive damages, the Associated Press reported.
