House Health Care Bill Gives FTC More Authority

Law360, New York (October 29, 2009, 4:12 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission will have the authority to investigate anti-competitive practices in the health insurance industry without congressional approval under the U.S. House of Representatives' proposed health care bill, according to a news report Thursday.

News of the FTC's increased powers came from anonymous Democratic officials who said they were not authorized to officially preempt a formal announcement, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The FTC did not immediately confirm or deny the report Thursday.
